The Story Behind
Olavo Tours

I grew up on Fogo, the volcano island. In 2009, I came to Boa Vista looking for work. I planned to stay a few months. Fifteen years later, I'm still here. There's something about this island that holds you. Maybe it's the light - different every hour, every season. Maybe it's the quiet beaches where you can walk for an hour without seeing another person. Maybe it's the turtles that return every year to the same stretch of sand where they were born.
I started doing tours because visitors kept asking me questions. Where's the best beach? Where can we see turtles? What's that village called? Eventually I realized: this is what I'm meant to do. Share this place with people who actually want to see it. Today, Olavo Tours is still personal. Most tours I guide myself in my Toyota Fortuner. I work with trusted local drivers for transfers and when demand is high. Small groups, real stories, no scripts. Just genuine Boa Vista.

We don't do tourist traps. Every stop on our tours is a place I'd take my own friends and family. No commission deals with souvenir shops. Just the real island.

Respect for Nature

This island's beauty is fragile. We follow all conservation guidelines, especially during turtle season. We don't drive on protected beaches. We take our rubbish with us. Small things that matter.

Support Local

When we stop for lunch, it's at local restaurants, not resort chains. When you buy a souvenir, it's from village artisans. Tourism should benefit the whole island, not just a few.

No hidden fees. No bait-and-switch. If weather cancels a tour, you get a full refund or reschedule. Simple.

Our Vehicle

Tours run in my Toyota Fortuner - a proper 4x4 that handles sand, rocks, and rough tracks with ease. Seven seats (six for guests), air conditioning that actually works, and enough space for everyone to be comfortable. For airport transfers, I work with partner drivers who meet the same standards: punctual, professional, comfortable vehicles.
